AT&T Fiber's 5 gig plan is XGS-PON, technically shared bandwidth, where as Gigabit Pro is typically a metro ethernet connection. It's theoretically better quality bandwidth and far less likely to ever experience a saturation\congestion issue compared with something shared like XGS-PON.On cable you get a great pipe down but limited upload. With Fiber you get consistent variables of upload and download. Xfinity may offer 1000 down but only 200 up whereas fibers for the same offers 1000 up and down. Xfinity is offering 400 Mbps download with unlimited data for $65/mo if you sign up for automatic payment. AT&T is offering 50 Mbps download/10 Mbps upload with fiber for $55/mo. Xfinity’s slower internet speeds are cheaper than AT&T’s slow fiber plans. But AT&T’s high-speed fiber plans are cheaper than Xfinity’s, so you’ll get a lot of bang for your buck with AT&T. Dial-up -> DSL -> Cable -> Fiber (FIOS) Cable is always going to be worse than Fiber as far as Internet, and DSL worse than cable, and dial-up worse than DSL. .
